4th grade math
Lesson Plans
- Aug. 29- Sept. 2--- Naming numbers within 1 million by building an understanding of the place chart and placement of commas. Students will write multi-digit numbers in word, expanded, and standard forms.
- Sept. 6-9---Comparing numbers based on digits using >, <, and =. Find 10, 100 and 1,000 more and less than a number
- Sept. 12-16---Rounding multi-digit numbers using vertical number line. Use place value understanding to round multi-digit numbers to any place value based on a word problem.
- Sept. 19-23--- Mid-Module Review packet. Test on Wednesday (students have a review packet). At the end of the week we will move on to using place value to add/subtract using the standard algorithm and apply it to use a tape diagram.
- Sept. 26- Oct. 21--- Complete unit on place value. Take end of module assessment.
- Oct. 24-28--- Converting between smaller and larger units in metric length, mass and volume measurements. Model and solve word problems using addition and subtraction of metric units.
- Oct. 31- Nov. 4---Review /Study guide for test on Thursday. Converting metric units of length, mass and capacity. Solving word problems using addition and subtraction within metric units.
- Nov. 7- Nov.11-- Review area and perimeter from last years skills to prepare moving into 4th grade skills of area and perimeter.
- Nov. 28- Dec. 2-- Solving word problems using division with remainders.
- Dec. 5-9-- Continue solving division problems with remainders (place value charts, standard algorithm, number bond and mental math)
- January 16-20---Prime and composite numbers, finding factors of numbers
- January 23-Feb. 10-- Long division --solving word problems involving division
- Feb. 13-17--- Use place value chart to solve 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication involving multiples of 10
- February 20-24--Multiplying 2 digit by 2 digit factors using partial products. TEST on Friday
- February 27-March 3- Equivalent fractions---Pizza Fractions Project
- March 6-10- Improper fractions and mixed numbers
- March 13-15-- Review week---GT play
- March 20-24--Spring Break
- March 27-31---Adding and subtracting fractions......ACT Aspire practice/review
Mathemagic Show Field Trip
The 3rd and 4th grades took a field trip to the Fowler Center to watch a Mathemagic show. It was educational and fun! We enjoyed lunch at Pizza Inn after the show. Thank you to the Children's Endowment for providing this opportunity. |

Pizza Fractions Project The students used pizza boxes to create a fractions project. They used items of their choice to make a pizza in the bottom of the box. In the top they labeled what fractional parts of their pizza had each kind of topping on it. They also had to find 2 equivalent fractions for each. The students wrote 2 word problems for their pizza. |
